2018: The Year of Balance

With a new year comes new opportunities, and a clean slate.

Reflecting back on 2017, I can definitely attest to the fact that is was one CRAZY year. Somehow, college graduation snuck up, and the real world began in the blink of an eye. Complete independence suddenly transformed into the 8-5 grind. Oh, and not to mention a whole lot of responsibility that even I did not fully comprehend.

Truly feeling as though one chapter has closed, and another has opened looking into the new year. Anyone else agree?

One resolution I am holding true is that of BALANCE. How does someone like me: the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed 22 year old (…showing some of my grandma tendencies with that one…) find the happy medium and the true sense of “work, life, balance?”

Safe to say the struggle is real.

So back to my point: balance is something I aim to strive towards in the new year and here is how I aim to do it.

1. Trust my gut/ my instincts
They don’t call it female intuition for nothing! Ha. But seriously, learning what my heart truly wants to do/doesn’t is key.

2. Plan weekend events ahead
This is a huge one for me. Planning ahead= less stress, something to look forward to, and most importantly, time to prepare. Don’t get me wrong- spontaneity is all well and good (I am always up for an impromptu night out on the town) but getting a handle on more things in advance is undeniably beneficial.

3. Self-reflection
Granted, the stress of work/life can get you down, most definitely causing rifts in emotional balance.  Personally, I see this as a result of reflecting on the craziness of the day, right before bed, as opposed to my own well being and state of mind.

Being realistic here: As wonderful as I think it is to write down 5 things before bed you are grateful for or meditate for 10 minutes in hopes to recenter, I simply do not have the stamina or patience for that at this particular time in my life.

For me, as a baby step, I am going to start with shutting down earlier, reading a good book before bed, and truly thinking positive thoughts.

4. Remain organized
Cliche but so darn true. Organization is the key to success.

These are four steps that I believe will help me achieve balance in 2018. It is time to turn the leaf on 2017 and we have high hopes for this coming year.

Xx,
Gab
